Florence

Beach Town · Florence, Oregon

A town at the mouth of the Siuslaw River, midway down the Oregon coast, with a restored riverfront Old Town under the 1936 Siuslaw River Bridge - one of Conde McCullough's Art Deco concrete arches, and among the handsomest of the set that carries US-101 down this coast. Florence is also the northern gateway to the Oregon Dunes, which begin immediately south of the river and run for forty miles, and to a bog north of town where carnivorous cobra lilies grow in the wild.

Bay Street, Florence, Oregon, 97439, United States

The town, Old Town and the Siuslaw River Bridge are open year round. Darlingtonia State Natural Site is open daily, dawn to dusk, and is free; the cobra lilies are at their best in late spring, roughly May to June. Old Town shops and restaurants keep normal retail hours and several cut back sharply between November and March. ⚠ THE OREGON DUNES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA IMMEDIATELY SOUTH IS A SEPARATE SITE WITH A FEDERAL DAY-USE FEE and is seeded separately.
