Flushing
Heritage District · Flushing, New York
The downtown around Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue, which holds one of the largest Chinatowns outside Asia and is widely argued to have the best Chinese food in the United States — regional, unmodified and aimed at the people who live here. ⚠ IT IS ALSO WHERE AMERICAN RELIGIOUS FREEDOM STARTS: the FLUSHING REMONSTRANCE of 1657, a petition against the persecution of Quakers, is a direct ancestor of the First Amendment.
Main Street at Roosevelt Avenue, Flushing, New York, 11354, United States
An open neighbourhood — free, no gate, no hours. Restaurants, food courts and shops keep their own hours; the food courts are at their fullest between roughly 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. ⚠ MANY STALLS AND SMALL RESTAURANTS ARE CASH-ONLY OR PREFER CASH. ⚠ THE HISTORIC SITES KEEP VERY LIMITED HOURS — the Old Quaker Meeting House (1694) and the Bowne House (1661) open on restricted schedules and should be checked before a special trip. The 7 train terminates at Flushing-Main Street, which is accessible; the LIRR also stops here and is faster. ⚠ THIS IS NOT FLUSHING MEADOWS CORONA PARK, which is two miles away and is a separate row.
