Flushing Meadows Corona Park

City Park · Corona, New York

Eleven hundred acres in central Queens, built by Robert Moses on a tidal marsh that had been used as an ash dump — the "valley of ashes" in The Great Gatsby was this ground — to host the 1939 WORLD'S FAIR, and then reused for the 1964 fair. It is the only place in the world to have hosted two World's Fairs, the United Nations met here in 1946, and the 1964 UNISPHERE still stands as the largest freestanding globe on earth.

Grand Central Parkway, Corona, New York, 11368, United States

The park is open daily 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. and is FREE, always. The Unisphere plaza and the New York State Pavilion exterior are open and free at all hours. Institutions inside the park — the Queens Museum, the New York Hall of Science, the Queens Zoo — keep their own hours and admission. The Queens Night Market runs Saturday evenings roughly April to October. ⚠ US OPEN FORTNIGHT in late August and early September transforms the northern end of the park entirely.
