Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park
Subnational Park · Mandan, North Dakota
The post the Seventh Cavalry rode out of on 17 May 1876 for the Little Bighorn, seven miles south of Mandan on a bluff above the Missouri. The Custer House has been rebuilt on its foundation and furnished as the Custers had it, three blockhouses stand on the ridge above, and on the flat below are six reconstructed earthlodges of On-A-Slant Village, a Mandan town that stood here from about 1575 until smallpox emptied it in the 1780s. It was North Dakota's first state park.
4480 Fort Lincoln Road, Mandan, North Dakota, 58554, United States
The park, campground, cabins and trails are open year round, with a per-vehicle North Dakota state park entry fee. ⚠ THE HISTORIC BUILDINGS ARE SEASONAL: the Custer House, the On-A-Slant earthlodges and the visitor centre run guided tours from roughly mid-May to mid-September, generally 9 AM to 5 PM, and are closed or by arrangement outside that. The tour carries its own charge on top of park entry. Camping and cabins are reservable and summer weekends fill early.
