Fort Ancient Earthworks and Nature Preserve

Archaeological · Oregonia, Ohio

Three and a half miles of earthen wall running around the rim of a bluff above the Little Miami River, the largest prehistoric hilltop enclosure in North America. It is not a fort and never was — the gaps in the wall align to solstice and equinox sunrises — and it is the eighth component of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks World Heritage Site.

6123 State Route 350, Oregonia, Ohio, 45054, United States

Open Wednesday to Sunday in season with reduced winter hours; closed some weekdays and holidays — check before travelling. Modest admission charge.
