Fort Concho National Historic Landmark

Fort · San Angelo, Texas

A frontier army post in the middle of San Angelo with around twenty original limestone buildings still standing on their original ground — one of the most complete surviving forts of the Indian Wars period anywhere in the West. The Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalry and the 24th and 25th Infantry were garrisoned here, and the town simply grew around the parade ground rather than over it.

⚠ HOURS AND ADMISSION ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them. Check fortconcho.com before travelling; this is a City of San Angelo site and third-party listings are often stale. ⚠ ASK AT THE VISITOR CENTRE WHICH BUILDINGS ARE OPEN before walking the site, which spans several city blocks. Living-history weekends and Christmas at Old Fort Concho are separately programmed and are the better visits.
