Fort Griffin State Historic Site
Fort · Albany, Texas
Ruins of a frontier cavalry post on a bluff above the Clear Fork of the Brazos, and the home of the Official Texas Longhorn Herd — the state-owned herd that exists because the breed was nearly extinct by the 1920s and had to be reassembled from the last scattered survivors. Below the bluff stood the Flat, one of the most violent towns of the buffalo-hunting era, where Doc Holliday met Big Nose Kate.
