Fort Lauderdale Beach

Beach · Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Seven miles of Atlantic sand behind a white serpentine wave wall, and the beach that spring break was invented on — Where the Boys Are was filmed here in 1960 and the city spent the next twenty-five years regretting it. The clean-up in the mid-1980s worked completely: the strip is now a promenade of palms and low-rise hotels, and the beach itself holds Blue Wave certification.

A1A at East Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 33316, United States

Beach open daily, dawn to dusk for lifeguarded swimming; the promenade is open later.
