Fort Tejon State Historic Park
Fort · Lebec, California
A US Army post of 1854 in the Grapevine pass on the way over the Tehachapis, restored around its original adobe barracks and officers' quarters. Its oddest chapter is the Camel Corps — the Army genuinely imported camels here in 1857 to test them as pack animals for the southwestern deserts, and for a few years it worked.
4201 Fort Tejon Road, Lebec, California, 93243, United States
Generally Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 16:00. Low admission. Reenactment weekends on a published schedule.
