Fort Worden Historical State Park

Fort · Port Townsend, Washington

A 433-acre coastal artillery post at the entrance to Puget Sound, built from 1898 and armed as one corner of the Triangle of Fire that was meant to stop a fleet reaching Seattle - a gun line that never fired at an enemy. The Army left in 1953 and the state took it over in 1973, and it now runs as an unusual hybrid: concrete gun batteries you can walk into unlit, Victorian officers houses let as holiday accommodation, a marine science centre, and one of the more serious arts organisations in the Pacific Northwest.

202 Eisenhower Avenue, Port Townsend, Washington, 98368, United States

Grounds and batteries open daily, 6:30 AM to dusk, free to walk. A Discover Pass is required to park. The Coast Artillery Museum, the Marine Science Center and the lodging keep their own hours and are more limited outside summer. Centrum runs an events and workshop programme through the year that fills the accommodation.
