Fort Worth Water Gardens
Modern Architecture · Fort Worth, Texas
A Philip Johnson design of 1974 at the south end of downtown Fort Worth — four and a half acres of concrete terraces, quiet pools and one enormous Active Pool where water falls down stepped blocks into a basin you can walk to the bottom of. It appeared in Logan's Run, it is free, and it has killed people, which is why the rules at the Active Pool are not decorative.
1502 Commerce Street, Fort Worth, Texas, 76102, United States
⚠ FREE — a public park with no ticket. ⚠ I COULD NOT VERIFY CURRENT HOURS; the Active Pool has historically closed at night and is DRAINED PERIODICALLY FOR MAINTENANCE, sometimes for extended periods — check with the City of Fort Worth before travelling if the descent is why you are coming. ⚠⚠ FOUR PEOPLE DROWNED IN THE ACTIVE POOL IN 2004; it was rebuilt and reopened, but the stair is wet, uneven and unrailed — hold children by the hand at every step.
