Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park
Florida State Park · Key West, Florida
A brick coastal fortification begun in 1845 that held for the Union throughout the Civil War despite standing in a Confederate state, and which now holds the largest collection of Civil War armament in the United States, buried in its own walls and excavated from the 1960s onward. The beach beside it is the best in Key West and the sunset from it is the one locals actually use.
601 Howard England Way, Key West, Florida, 33040, United States
Open 8:00 a.m. until sundown, 365 days a year. The fort is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Free guided tours run daily on a posted schedule.
