Foss State Park
Oklahoma State Park On Foss Reservoir, A Bureau Of Reclamation Lake Impounded 1961 On The Washita River · Foss, Oklahoma
The park around Foss Reservoir in western Oklahoma, an 8,800-acre Bureau of Reclamation lake made in 1961 on the Washita River to supply towns across the region, sitting in open short-grass and red-dirt country where there is very little other water. That makes it a magnet: walleye, striped bass hybrids, catfish and crappie draw anglers, and the wide-open surface suits sailing and wind sports in a state where wind is guaranteed. The park has campgrounds, cabins, ramps, a beach and a group camp spread along the shore, with big skies and almost no light pollution, so the stargazing is excellent. Water levels swing with drought and rain, and algae advisories appear in hot late summers, so both are worth checking before towing a boat out here.
