Founders Brewing Co. Taproom
Brewery · Grand Rapids, Michigan
Founders Brewing Co. is a Grand Rapids brewery founded in 1997, and its big taproom on the southwest side of downtown is the most visited single beer venue in a city that has billed itself as Beer City USA since a 2012 poll. The company nearly failed in its early years making ordinary beer, then found its footing with stronger, stranger ones. Today it is best known for All Day IPA, a light everyday beer, and for Kentucky Breakfast Stout, a barrel-aged imperial stout whose spring release brings queues and out-of-state buyers. The taproom is large, loud and busy, with a full food menu and, in good weather, outdoor seating (confirm). It suits beer drinkers, groups and anyone building a Grand Rapids brewery crawl. You must be 21 or older to drink. Allow one to two hours, more on a weekend, and plan a ride home because nobody should drive after sampling. Check current hours, tours and release dates first.
235 Grandville Avenue SW, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49503, United States
The taproom is generally open every day of the week, usually from late morning until late evening, with later closing on Friday and Saturday and a shorter day on Sunday. Exact opening times, kitchen hours and any holiday closures change, so confirm on the brewery's own site or by phone before you go. The patio, if open, depends on the weather and the season. Brewery tours, if offered, run on a separate schedule and may need a ticket or a time slot (confirm). Release days for barrel-aged beers, especially the spring Kentucky Breakfast Stout release, follow a different system with queues and limits, so check the current rules first.
