Fox Theatre

National Historic Landmark · Atlanta, Georgia

A 1929 picture palace on Peachtree Street that was designed as a Shriners temple before the money ran out and Fox took over the lease — which is why the interior is a Moorish courtyard with Egyptian rooms attached and an auditorium built to look like an open-air Arabian citadel at night, with a ceiling of stars and clouds that drift across it. It was days from demolition in 1974 before a public campaign saved it. It is a National Historic Landmark and it is a working touring venue, not a museum.

660 Peachtree Street Northeast, Atlanta, Georgia, 30308, United States

Event days and scheduled tour days only — the building is closed to the public otherwise and there is no drop-in access. Touring Broadway, concerts, comedy and a summer film series run through the year on a published calendar. Guided behind-the-scenes tours run on a limited daytime schedule, booked in advance, and are cancelled when the building is in production.
