Franklin Park Zoo
Zoo · Boston, Massachusetts
Boston's zoo, set inside Franklin Park — the largest link in Frederick Law Olmsted's Emerald Necklace and the one he considered his masterpiece after Central Park. It opened in 1912 and its best exhibit is the Tropical Forest, a large indoor rainforest building holding a western lowland gorilla troop, which means it works as a destination in a New England February when almost nothing else outdoors does. Lions, giraffes and an Australian trail fill out the rest.
