Frederick
Heritage District · Frederick, Maryland
A city of clustered church spires an hour west of Baltimore, with one of the largest historic districts in Maryland — some fifty blocks of eighteenth and nineteenth-century brick — and a linear park built along a canal that runs through the middle of it. Francis Scott Key is buried here. So is Roger Taney, who wrote the Dred Scott decision, two streets away. It sat between two armies for most of the Civil War and its churches and warehouses were filled with the wounded from Antietam and Monocacy.
