Freedom Tower
Historic Site · Miami, Florida
A 1925 Mediterranean Revival tower modelled on the Giralda in Seville, built for the Miami News and then used from 1962 to 1974 as the federal processing centre for Cubans arriving in the United States. Around half a million people were registered, examined and given assistance inside it, which is why it is known as the Ellis Island of the South and why it is a National Historic Landmark.
