Freedom Trail

Boston National Historical Park · Boston, Massachusetts

A red line — brick for most of its length, painted where brick was impractical — running two and a half miles through Boston from the Common to the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown, past sixteen official sites where the American Revolution was argued into existence and then fought. Walking it is free and needs no ticket, no guide and no booking; four or five of the buildings on it charge a small admission to go inside. It is the most concentrated stretch of early American history anywhere in the country.

Boston Common to Charlestown, Boston, Massachusetts, 02108, United States

The trail itself is FREE and open at all hours. Individual sites keep their own hours, several close Mondays or in winter, and four or five charge a small admission. Free NPS ranger walks run seasonally from the Faneuil Hall visitor centre on a first-come basis.
