French Lick and West Baden Springs
Spa Town · French Lick, Indiana
Two grand mineral-springs hotels a mile apart in a valley in Orange County, southern Indiana, both National Historic Landmarks and both restored after decades of decline. The West Baden Springs Hotel of 1902 is built around a circular atrium whose 200-foot dome was the largest free-spanning dome in the world until the Houston Astrodome in 1965, and was advertised in its day as the eighth wonder of the world. The French Lick Springs Hotel down the road is the larger operation, with the casino, the golf and most of the rooms. They were bought and restored together in the 2000s and now run as one resort.
8670 West State Road 56, French Lick, Indiana, 47432, United States
Both hotels operate year-round. The West Baden atrium can be visited during the day without staying. Guided historical tours run on a published daily schedule. Golf is seasonal and the valley railway excursions run seasonally.
