Frida Kahlo Museum
Museo (Fideicomiso Diego Rivera Y Frida Kahlo, Banco De MéXico) · Ciudad de México, Ciudad de México
The cobalt-blue house in Coyoacan where Frida Kahlo was born in 1907, lived with Diego Rivera, and died in 1954. It opened as a museum four years later and is not a collection assembled about her: it is her house, kept largely as it was, with the studio, the easel and the wheelchair beside it, the four-poster bed with a mirror overhead that her mother fixed there so she could paint while immobilised, the kitchen with their names in tiny pots on the wall, and the pre-Hispanic pieces Diego collected in the garden. Her clothes and corsets stayed sealed in a bathroom after Rivera's death in 1957 and were opened in 2004; they have been on display since 2018. It is small, timed, and sells out - buy tickets online days or weeks ahead and add the photo permit. Only a few paintings hang here, so come for the life, not the canvases. Allow two hours, then spend the afternoon in Coyoacan. Closed Mondays.
Londres 247, Del Carmen, Coyoacán, Ciudad de México, Ciudad de México, 04100, Mexico
⚠ CLOSED MONDAYS. Generally open Tuesday to Sunday, roughly 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a later start on Wednesdays, and last admission before closing. ⚠ TICKETS ARE ONLINE, TIMED AND SELL OUT DAYS OR WEEKS AHEAD - there is effectively no same-day walk-up, and this is the most common way a Mexico City day goes wrong. ⚠ A SEPARATE PAID PHOTO PERMIT IS REQUIRED to use a camera or phone inside and is bought with the ticket. Prices differ for foreign visitors and Mexican nationals and are higher at weekends. ⚠ IT IS NOT THE SAN ÁNGEL HOUSE - the Museo Casa Estudio Diego Rivera y Frida Kahlo is a different museum with a different ticket. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED FOR THIS FILE.
