Frontenac National Park
A Quebec Provincial National Park (Sepaq, 1987) On Lake Saint Francois, With Forest, Lakeshore Camping, Paddling And Trails. Lac Saint Francois Is A Large Lake With Islands; Autumn Colour Peaks In Late September. A Sepaq Park, Not A Parks Canada Park. · Saint-Joseph-de-Coleraine, Quebec
Frontenac National Park is a Quebec provincial park run by Sepaq, not a Parks Canada park, so Parks Canada passes do not apply. It lies in the Eastern Townships, in the Appalachian foothills about 110 km south-east of Quebec City, and is built around Lac Saint-Francois, a large lake with islands, forested shores and few buildings. This is a quiet, family-scale park rather than a dramatic one: low wooded hills, lakeshore trails, paddling routes and campsites you can reach by canoe. Thetford Mines, an old asbestos-mining town with a mining museum, is the nearest larger place, and the park gives a very different, greener face of the region. It suits canoeists, campers, walkers and anyone who wants space without the crowds of the bigger parks. Late September brings strong autumn colour. Services are limited outside summer, and the nearest big shops are in town. Allow a day for walking and paddling, or two or three days if you camp by the lake. Confirm current Sepaq rules and fees.

Frontenac follows Sepaq seasonal hours. The welcome centre and main services are open daily through summer and into early autumn, usually with longer hours in July and August, and reduced hours or closures from late autumn into spring. Some campgrounds, canoe-camping sites and boat services open only for part of the season and need advance booking. In winter the park is usually open for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, with a smaller set of services. Hours, season dates and which campgrounds are operating change by year, so check the Sepaq listing before you drive out. Cell coverage can be patchy, so print or save your booking details, and arrive well before dusk on shorter autumn days.
