Frontier Culture Museum
Open Air Museum · Staunton, Virginia
An outdoor museum at Staunton that answers a question most living-history sites skip: where did the people who settled the Shenandoah Valley actually come from. It did it by going and getting the buildings — an English farm from Worcestershire, an Irish forge and farmhouse, a German farm from Hesse, all dismantled, shipped and re-erected here, with a West African Igbo compound reconstructed from research, and then American farms of 1740, 1820 and 1850 to show what the mixture became.
1290 Richmond Road, Staunton, Virginia, 24401, United States
Generally 9 AM - 5 PM daily, with reduced hours and fewer staffed buildings in winter. Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
