Fulton Mansion State Historic Site
Historic House · Rockport, Texas
An 1877 French Second Empire house on Aransas Bay built by a cattle baron who filled it with technology that most American houses would not see for another forty years — central heating, gas lighting, running hot and cold water and flush toilets, in a Texas coastal town of a few hundred people. Hurricane Harvey damaged it badly in 2017 and it was restored again.

⚠ HOURS, TOUR TIMES AND ADMISSION ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them. Check thc.texas.gov before travelling; THC sites commonly close one or two days a week and ⚠ ACCESS MAY BE BY SCHEDULED GUIDED TOUR rather than free wandering, so confirm departure times. ⚠ Ask specifically about the 1877 plumbing, heating and construction — that is what makes the house remarkable and it is invisible without a guide.
