Fundidora Park

A Big City Park On The Site Of Mexico'S First Steel Foundry, With The Preserved Blast Furnace Turned Into A Museum And Lookout, The Paseo Santa Lucia Riverwalk, Lakes, Concert Venues And Bicycle Paths. The Green Heart Of Monterrey And Its Main Place For Festivals, Open Daily · Monterrey, Nuevo León

Parque Fundidora is a large urban park built on the grounds of Mexico's first integrated steel foundry, which closed in the 1980s, on the east side of central Monterrey. Instead of tearing the plant down, the city kept its rusting furnaces, brick halls and chimneys as landmarks among lawns, lakes and bike paths. The star is the Horno 3 blast furnace, now a museum with a glass elevator to a lookout over the park and city. A boat ride on the Paseo Santa Lucia runs from the edge of the park toward downtown, and the Auditorio Banamex hosts big concerts. The Papalote museum for children sits inside. It suits families, cyclists, runners, music fans and anyone curious about industrial heritage. It is worth a half day when you are already in Monterrey. It is not worth it as a standalone trip from far away if industry and city parks do not interest you. Summers are hot, so go in the early morning or evening.

The park is open daily and entering the grounds is FREE, with paths, lawns, lakes and bike lanes open from early morning until evening. The Horno 3 museum and lookout, the Papalote museum and the Paseo Santa Lucia boats have their own ticket windows and set hours, and several are CLOSED on one weekday, commonly Monday, so confirm on the day. Concert venues open only for events. Park hours can shorten in storms, and some areas close for festivals or maintenance, so check current times before you go.
