Fundy Trail Parkway

Fundy Trail Parkway (Province Of New Brunswick) · St. Martins, New Brunswick

The Fundy Trail Parkway is a slow, paved scenic road of about 30 km along the Bay of Fundy coast, starting at the village of Saint Martins in New Brunswick and running east toward the Fundy National Park area. It was built from the late 1990s to open a stretch of shore that had no road. The route climbs through forest to lookouts over red cliffs and coves, drops to Long Beach, and reaches the Big Salmon River, where a suspension footbridge crosses the river near the Interpretive Centre. A toll is charged at the gate and the parkway is seasonal, closed in winter, so confirm dates and prices. It suits drivers, cyclists and walkers who want views more than a destination. Honest limits: the grades are steep, fog can erase the lookouts, there is little food inside, and the tides decide whether beaches can be walked. Allow a half day to a full day. Hopewell Rocks is a separate place, roughly two hours away.

The parkway is seasonal, commonly open from about mid-May to mid-October, and closed to vehicles through winter when snow and ice make the steep road unsafe. Gate and visitor centre hours are daytime only, often with a last-entry time well before dusk, and they shift between early season, July and August, and autumn. A toll is charged per vehicle or person at the gate, so confirm the current rate and whether cards are accepted. Staffed buildings and food service run on a shorter season than the road itself. Because several trails and beaches depend on the tide, check the Fundy tide table for Saint Martins before you plan stops, and ask at the gate whether the full route is open as a through road that day.
