Gabala and Nohur Lake

Site Of The Ancient Caucasian Albanian Capital Kabalaka, With Excavated City Remains, The Nohur Lake, A Mountain Lake And Park Beside A Hotel, And Tufandag, A Cable Car Resort In Summer And Winter. A Leisure Destination For Baku Residents. · Qabala, Qabala

Gabala (Qabala) is a green foothill town about 225 km and 3.5 hours by road north-west of Baku, and the most popular mountain break for people from the capital. The area was once Kabalaka, a capital of Caucasian Albania, and a small excavated site and an archaeological museum hold the remains. Most visitors come for leisure instead: Nohur Lake, a mountain lake with a promenade, pavilions, a hotel and boat rides, and Tufandag, a cable-car resort that runs for skiing in winter and for rides, ropes and a zip line in summer. Forest trails lead to the Seven Beauties Waterfall. The town is modern and tidy, and parts feel built for weekenders. Summers are warm and leafy, winters bring snow, and hazelnut orchards fill the hills, with weekdays calm and weekends lively. Hotels fill on summer weekends and holidays, so book early. Treat it as a relaxed, mostly modern leisure stop with a little archaeology, not a major heritage site, and pair it with Sheki or Lahij for a fuller trip on the same road.
