Galveston Island State Park
Subnational Park · Galveston, Texas
Two thousand acres of undeveloped barrier island on Galveston's west end, straddling FM 3005 with a Gulf beach on one side and Galveston Bay marsh on the other. It sits on the North and South American migratory flyway, which makes it one of the premier spring birding sites on the Texas coast, and it offers the only direct beach camping on the island — 95 sites rebuilt and reopened in 2022 after Hurricane Ike destroyed the originals in 2008.
