Garden of the Phoenix

Japanese Garden · Chicago, Illinois

A Japanese garden on the Wooded Island in Jackson Park, on the ground where Japan built the Ho-o-den pavilion for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition — the building that introduced Japanese architecture to America and left a permanent mark on Frank Lloyd Wright. The pavilion burned in 1946; the garden was restored and renamed in 2013, and it now holds Yoko Ono's only permanent public artwork in the Americas.
