Garfield Park Conservatory

Conservatory · Chicago, Illinois

One of the largest conservatories in the world under a single roof, built between 1906 and 1908 to a design by Jens Jensen that broke with everything Victorian glasshouses had been doing — instead of tiered benches of potted specimens, Jensen built interior landscapes with rock ledges, prairie waterfalls and winding paths, and called it landscape art under glass. It is on the West Side, it is free, and the Green Line stops at the door.

300 North Central Park Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, 60624, United States
