Garvan Woodland Gardens

The Botanical Garden Of The University Of Arkansas, On A 210 Acre Wooded Peninsula In Lake Hamilton, Given To The University By Verna Cook Garvan And Opened To The Public In 2002. · Hot Springs, Arkansas

Garvan Woodland Gardens occupies a 210-acre peninsula sticking out into Lake Hamilton at Hot Springs, which means almost every path in it ends at water. Verna Cook Garvan spent forty years planting the land she inherited from her father's timber company and left the whole thing to the University of Arkansas, which opened it as a public botanical garden in 2002. The two things people come for are the spring bulb display, which runs into six figures of tulips and daffodils, and Anthony Chapel - a tall glass and timber chapel in the woods in the lineage of Arkansas's Fay Jones tradition. There is also a Japanese-influenced garden, a children's garden built into the rock, and a winter lights display.
