Georgia Aquarium

Aquarium · Atlanta, Georgia

The largest aquarium in the western hemisphere, opened in downtown Atlanta in 2005 on the back of a single enormous gift from the Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus. Its centrepiece is Ocean Voyager, a tank of several million gallons built to hold whale sharks — the biggest fish in the sea, and animals no aquarium outside Asia keeps — which you walk under through an acrylic tunnel and view through one of the largest viewing windows anywhere. Manta rays, beluga whales, African penguins and sea otters fill the rest of it.

225 Baker Street Northwest, Atlanta, Georgia, 30313, United States

Open daily, generally 9:00 to 18:00 or later with extended summer and holiday hours; timed-entry tickets required and dynamically priced. Parking is charged separately in the Pemberton Place deck. Check the current calendar and the daily presentation schedule before travelling.
