Gettysburg National Military Park
National Military Park · Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
The preserved battlefield of the three-day engagement of 1 to 3 July 1863, the largest battle ever fought in North America and the one that ended the Confederate invasion of the north. Roughly six thousand acres of ridge, wheatfield, orchard and boulder field are held almost exactly as they were, threaded by a twenty-four-stop driving tour and covered with more than a thousand regimental monuments. The Soldiers' National Cemetery, where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address that November, is part of the park and is free to walk into.
