Giresun Island is a small, green island about 1.5 km off the harbour of Giresun, on the eastern Black Sea coast, and it is the only island of any size on the Black Sea shore of Turkiye. It is reached by a short boat ride from the city port, and the crossing itself is part of the appeal, with the hazelnut hills rising behind the town and fishing boats and gulls around the quay (confirm). The island is wooded, with a ring of rocky shore, small coves and a few ruins from antiquity and later periods, and local stories connect it to an Ares temple and to the Amazon warriors, though these are legends rather than proven history. In spring, the island hosts a festival that draws families to the harbour and the shore (confirm), and the rest of the year it is quiet, with birds and sea views. There is no large beach or resort here, only a nature walk, a small landing and a chance to swim or picnic away from the mainland. It makes a good half-day addition to a stay in Giresun.
