Givskud Zoo, now branded Givskud Zoo - Zootopia, is a safari park in the countryside of central Jutland between Vejle and Give, roughly 15 minutes by car from the Viking royal monuments at Jelling and about 30 minutes from LEGOLAND Billund. It opened in 1969 as a lion park, and the heart of the visit is still the drive-through safari: you drive your own car, or ride the park's safari bus, through large open enclosures with lions and with herds of giraffes, zebras and antelope. Around it are walking areas with a large gorilla group, bears, wolves and other animals, plus playgrounds and picnic lawns. In recent years the park has been rebuilt as Zootopia, a master plan said to be by the architects BIG, which hides buildings in the landscape and gives animals wider open ground. People come for a relaxed family day that pairs easily with Jelling or LEGOLAND. The honest caveat: it is seasonal, roughly spring to autumn, it is hard to reach without a car, and the animals are spread out, so some days you see less than you hoped.

Seasonal: usually open daily from roughly late March or April to the October autumn school holiday, with the longest hours in the Danish summer holiday (late June to early August), shorter hours in spring and autumn and closed in winter - confirm the current season dates, since this pattern needs checking each year, and note the last entry to the drive-through is well before closing. By car it is about 260 km and roughly 3 hours from Copenhagen over the Great Belt Bridge (a toll applies), leaving the E45 at Vejle; from Aarhus about 1 hour 15 minutes. By public transport, take the train to Vejle (roughly 2 hours from Copenhagen), then a regional bus towards Give that stops near the zoo - check Rejseplanen. Tickets are cheaper online; no timed booking as a rule.
