Glacier Gardens Rainforest Adventure

Private Botanical Garden And Rainforest Tour · Juneau, Alaska

A privately run garden of about 50 acres on the lower slopes of Thunder Mountain in Juneau, created by Steve and Cindy Bowhay on a hillside scarred by a landslide in the 1980s. It is best known for its 'flower towers': uprooted trees planted upside down with their roots in the air and filled with trailing petunias, begonias and fuchsias. Guided tours ride covered carts up paths through the temperate rainforest of Sitka spruce and hemlock to a viewing platform about 580 feet above sea level, looking over the Mendenhall Wetlands and Gastineau Channel. The garden opens from May to September, with guided tours about 9 AM-6 PM daily. Published prices in 2026 were about $25-$27 for adults and $15.95 for children, including the guided cart tour.
