Glass Beach

Beach · Fort Bragg, California

Fort Bragg dumped its rubbish over this bluff from 1906 until 1967, glass and all. Sixty years of Pacific surf ground the bottles into smooth coloured pebbles, and the town's worst habit became its best-known attraction. It is now part of MacKerricher State Park — and taking the glass is prohibited, which matters, because the beach is visibly emptier than it was.

Elm Street at Glass Beach Drive, Fort Bragg, California, 95437, United States

Open daily, dawn to dusk. Free. Part of MacKerricher State Park.
