Glessner House

Historic House · Chicago, Illinois

H. H. Richardson's last major building, finished on Prairie Avenue in 1887 and so unlike everything around it that the neighbours complained — a granite fortress presenting almost a blank wall to the street, with every room turned inward to a private south courtyard. Frank Lloyd Wright called it the most important house in America, and the plan of it runs straight into everything he built afterwards.
