Global Wildlife Center
Wildlife Park · Folsom, Louisiana
Nine hundred acres of open pasture an hour north of New Orleans, holding around four thousand free-roaming animals — giraffe, zebra, bison, eland, several deer species and a great deal else — that you see from a covered wagon pulled behind a tractor. THE ANIMALS COME TO THE WAGON BECAUSE PASSENGERS ARE GIVEN CUPS OF FEED, which means a giraffe will put its head over the rail into your lap. It is a breeding preserve rather than a zoo, the enclosures are the horizon, and it is the best thing to do with children in Louisiana.
26389 Highway 40, Folsom, Louisiana, 70437, United States
Open daily with wagon tours running to a fixed timetable; hours are shorter in winter and the last tour leaves well before closing. BOOK IN ADVANCE — seats are limited and weekend, spring and school-holiday tours sell out. TOURS ARE WEATHER-DEPENDENT and are cancelled for storms, so check before driving an hour from New Orleans. Feed cups are included with the ticket and extra cups are sold on site.
