Goldstream Provincial Park
A Rainforest Park With Old Growth Douglas Fir And Cedar Trees, Niagara Falls (A 47 M Cascade), The Goldstream River, A Nature House And An Autumn Chum Salmon Run That Draws Bald Eagles. A Short Drive From Victoria, With A Popular Spawning Season Visit · Langford, British Columbia
Goldstream Provincial Park is a rainforest park beside the Trans-Canada Highway at the foot of the Malahat climb, about 20 km north-west of Victoria on southern Vancouver Island (confirm). Giant Douglas fir and western red cedar shade the Goldstream River, mossy trails run along the water, and Niagara Falls, a ribbon of white water of about 47 m (confirm), drops beside a railway trestle. A nature house near the estuary explains the forest and the salmon, and a campground sits in the trees. From about mid October to early December thousands of chum salmon return to spawn, and bald eagles, gulls and other birds gather to feed on the tired fish, which makes this one of the best wildlife shows near Victoria. Mount Finlayson gives a steep climb above Finlayson Arm for walkers who want a view. The park is only half an hour from town, so it is easy to add to a day on the Malahat or a trip to Sooke.
