Goliad State Park and Historic Site
Historic Site · Goliad, Texas
A hundred and eighty acres on the San Antonio River holding Mission Espíritu Santo — a Spanish colonial mission established here in 1749, reduced to complete stone ruin after secularisation, and rebuilt by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s into one of the finest colonial reconstructions in the country. The park also holds the ruins of Mission Rosario, the reconstructed birthplace of the general whose victory Cinco de Mayo commemorates, and a marked trail to Presidio La Bahía across the river.
