Gonzales
Heritage District · Gonzales, Texas
The town where the Texas Revolution started — in October 1835 the Mexican army came for a small cannon the settlers had been lent, the settlers made a flag reading "Come and Take It", and the first shot was fired. The town that grew afterwards has one of the most complete Victorian courthouse squares in Texas and a museum holding what is claimed to be the cannon itself.
414 Saint Lawrence Street, Gonzales, Texas, 78629, United States
The town and the courthouse square are free to walk and always open. ⚠ INDIVIDUAL MUSEUM HOURS AND PRICES ARE NOT STATED HERE — this is a town of about seven thousand and the museums keep small-town hours with weekday closures; check locally before driving out.
