Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park

A Park On A Large Warm Lake With A Long Sandy Beach, Dunes, A Campground, Boating And A Famous Sunset, Popular With Families From Yorkton And Canora. The Beach Is One Of Saskatchewan'S Best · Canora, Saskatchewan

Good Spirit Lake Provincial Park lies in east-central Saskatchewan, reached by Highway 229 about 30 km south of Canora and a short drive north of Yorkton (confirm distances). It was created in 1931 and is built around a large, shallow lake with warm water and one of the longest sandy beaches in the province, backed by dunes, grassy hills and aspen parkland. Sand ridges at the south end form a dune landscape that is unusual on the prairie, and the old Cree and Saulteaux name for the lake refers to a good spirit said to watch over it. The campground, beach and boat launch make the park a classic prairie family holiday spot, with swimming, kayaking, fishing and sunsets that turn the water orange. Sharp-tailed grouse, white-tailed deer, pelicans and many shorebirds use the area. A vehicle entry permit is needed (confirm the price), and blue-green algae can affect the lake in hot, calm spells of summer.

The park is open all year, but most services run from the Victoria Day weekend in May to the Labour Day weekend in September. The campground office, beach facilities, concession and boat launch keep seasonal hours and may close early in spring and after the September long weekend, so confirm times before you drive. Trails are open at all hours, but roads may not be ploughed in winter, and snowmobile or ski routes depend on the weather. Call the park office for campground dates and any algae or fire advisories.
