Gooseberry Falls State Park
Minnesota State Park · Two Harbors, Minnesota
The busiest state park on the North Shore, and the one nearly every visitor stops at first — a set of falls where the Gooseberry River drops through a basalt gorge in three main stages a few minutes' walk from the car park, with Lake Superior half a mile downstream. The stonework, bridges and log buildings were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and are a National Historic Landmark district in their own right. Unusually for Minnesota, it costs nothing: this is one of the few state parks that requires no vehicle permit.
3206 Highway 61 East, Two Harbors, Minnesota, 55616, United States
Open daily year round, generally 8 AM to 10 PM, and FREE — no Minnesota state park vehicle permit is required, which is unusual in the state system. The visitor centre keeps seasonal hours. The campground is open to registered guests around the clock. Falls flow depends on recent rain and snowmelt and can reduce sharply in a dry late summer.
