Governors Island

Island · New York, New York

A 172-acre island in New York Harbor, eight hundred yards off Lower Manhattan, that was a military post for almost two hundred years — Army, then Coast Guard — and closed to the public until 2003. The southern half is landfill made from subway excavation, and on it sits THE HILLS, four artificial hills built from 2016 with a slide 57 feet long and a 360-degree harbour view from the top of Outlook Hill.
