Graceland

National Historic Landmark · Memphis, Tennessee

The Memphis mansion Elvis Presley bought in 1957, aged twenty-two, and lived in until he died there in 1977. The house is preserved as he left it — the shag-carpeted Jungle Room, the yellow-and-blue basement, the three televisions set into one wall — and he is buried in the Meditation Garden beside his parents, his grandmother and his daughter. It opened to the public in 1982 and is the most visited private home in the United States after the White House.
