Grand Canyon Caverns
Privately Owned Show Cave On Route 66 · Peach Springs, Arizona
A large dry limestone cavern beneath the high desert on historic Route 66 between Seligman and Peach Springs, reached by an elevator that drops about 210 feet — about 21 storeys — into the earth. A woodcutter, Walter Peck, found the entrance in 1927, and early visitors were lowered in on ropes. The cave stays about 56°F with very low humidity, so remains last: a bobcat that fell in long ago, a replica ground sloth, and survival supplies stored here by the government during the Cold War in 1962. Guided tours follow lit paths through the chambers, and the Cavern Suite offers what is billed as the deepest, darkest and quietest motel room. In 2026 the regular tour cost $20.95 for adults. A motel, restaurant and RV park stand above ground.
