Grand Central Terminal

Historic Site · New York, New York

Opened in 1913 and still the largest railway station in the world by number of platforms — 44 of them on two underground levels. It was scheduled for demolition in the 1960s and saved by a Supreme Court case that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis campaigned for, which established that American cities could protect landmark buildings at all. The ceiling constellation is famously back to front.

89 East 42nd Street, New York, New York, 10017, United States

The terminal is open daily, roughly 5:15 a.m. to 2 a.m. Free to enter, no ticket required. Shops, the Dining Concourse and the restaurants keep their own hours; most retail closes around 9 p.m. ⚠ Hours were NOT verified for this file.
