Grand Rapids Art Museum

Art Museum · Grand Rapids, Michigan

The Grand Rapids Art Museum, usually called GRAM, sits on Rosa Parks Circle in the middle of downtown Grand Rapids. It opened in 2007 in a new building certified to the LEED standard for green design, and the glass, stone and skylit galleries are part of the attraction. The collection runs from the Renaissance to the present day, with European and American painting, prints, sculpture and design, and rotating exhibitions fill the large gallery spaces. The museum has been a venue for ArtPrize, the citywide art contest held in autumn in past years (confirm its current status). It suits art lovers, architecture fans, families with older children and anyone with a wet afternoon to fill. It is a mid-sized city museum, not the Art Institute of Chicago. Allow one to two hours. Confirm admission, free days, closed days and any special exhibition tickets on the museum's own site before you go, since all of them change.

101 Monroe Center NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49503, United States

The museum is generally open several days a week, usually late morning through late afternoon, with later hours on one or two evenings and a shorter day on Sunday. It is closed on some days, commonly Monday, and on major holidays, but the pattern changes, so confirm on the museum's own site or by phone before you travel. Free or discounted evenings and days have been offered in the past, and the schedule changes by year. During ArtPrize, if it runs, hours and admission may differ. Special exhibitions may carry their own ticket or time slot and different hours.
