Great Camp Sagamore
Historic House · Raquette Lake, New York
A twenty-seven-building wilderness estate on Sagamore Lake near Raquette Lake, built in 1897 by William West Durant — who invented the Adirondack Great Camp as a building type — and owned by the Vanderbilts from 1901 to 1954. It is a NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK and the most complete surviving Great Camp, with a servants' village hidden behind the family compound that the tours now treat as the more interesting half.
